Query Processing:
- Each time you select a value(s) from a filter and submit your choice, DataVault runs a new query.
- You’ll see “Loading…” below the Download/Reset buttons while the query processes.
- Results and other filters in the purple section will update automatically.
Example: If you select “Europe” in the Region filter and submit:
- The Country filter will show only European countries.
- The Substrate filter will display only values available for European banknotes.
Important: Wait for data to return before adding more filters to ensure accurate results.
Submitting Filter Selections:
There are two ways to submit your filter selections:
1. Click the tick icon (✓) to the right of the filter.

2. Click anywhere on the app outside of another filter (preferred method).

For the other examples in this guide, we’ll use the second method (clicking outside the filter) to submit selections.
Removing Filter Values
To remove value(s) from a filter:
- Click the ‘X’ icon to the right of the value you wish to remove.
- Wait for the query to update before making additional changes.
Example:
- Remove “Gemini” and wait for the update.
- Remove “RollingStar” and wait again.
- Remove “Spark” (the last value in the filter).
- Since “Spark” was the final value, validate this choice by clicking anywhere on the app outside the filter area.
This step-by-step process ensures accurate results as the query updates after each removal.

Key Reminders:
- Always allow the query to update between actions for the most accurate results.
- Consider using the “Reset All Filters” button for a quicker way to start a new search, especially when making multiple changes.
This approach ensures accurate results and offers a time-saving alternative for new searches.
Filtering by Security Features
The green section, which contains security feature filters, operates differently from the purple section:
- Filter Behaviour:
- Green filters do not update their content based on other selections.
- They offer all possible values within each filter, regardless of other choices.
- Advantages:
- This approach provides extreme granularity in building your query.
- It allows for highly specific searches across all security feature combinations.
- Potential Drawback:
- Your selection may not correspond to any existing banknote in the database.
- In such cases, you’ll see the message “No Data Available”.
Example: If you select the brand name “Argentum” and a “Narrow” thread width, DataVault will return “No Data Available” because this specific combination doesn’t exist in any banknote record.

- Best Practice:
- Be mindful of realistic feature combinations when using these filters.
- If you receive “No Data Available”, try broadening your search criteria.
This filtering method offers powerful search capabilities but requires careful consideration of real-world banknote features for effective results.
DataVault Date Range Filtering
DataVault offers the ability to apply a date range to your selection:
- Location: The date range filter is located in the top right corner of the purple section.
- Function: You can set both the start and end year for your existing query.
- Best Practice: Apply the date range as the final step in your filtering process.
- Important Note: If you modify any other filter after applying a date range:
- Your date selection will be reset.
- The query will revert to the full date range, taking into account your most recently selected filter.
- Recommendation: Be mindful to apply the date range as the last modification to your query to ensure your desired date parameters are maintained.

By following this guidance, you can effectively use the date range feature to refine your search results without inadvertently resetting your chosen time period.
Understanding DataVault’s Boolean Logic: AND/OR Operations
- Between Filters:
- An AND operation is applied between all filters, regardless of whether they’re in the purple or green section.
- Purple Section (General Filters):
- Within each filter, an OR operation is used between values.
- Example: Selecting “Paper OR Polymer” for the substrate will return banknotes using either Paper or Polymer.
- Green Section (Security Features):
- By default, an AND operation is applied between values within a filter.
- Some filters allow you to choose the operator (AND/OR) for values within that filter.
- Example: For brand names like Spark and RollingStar: • Choosing OR: Returns banknotes with either Spark OR RollingStar • Choosing AND: Returns only banknotes that have BOTH Spark AND RollingStar
- Exceptions:
- Some filters in the green section default to OR operation.
- These exceptions will be clearly marked within the interface.

Understanding these logic operations allows for more precise and effective searches in DataVault. Experiment with different combinations to refine your results.
Type of Note filter
The default selection “Current Circualting Design” for the Type of Note filter does not include the two Commemoratives and Legacy notes. Basically the “Current Circualting Design” only select the latest version of the standard circulating notes, ie values within the red rectangle in the snapshot below.

If you would like the search to includes the two Commemoratives and Legacy you will have to select every values for the Type of Note filter see below.
