Galaxy is a high-security windowed thread built around millions of micromirrors per square centimetre, producing dynamic 3D optical effects — floating elements, colour shifts, and animated imagery — that change as the note is tilted. The micromirror patterns are generated using proprietary algorithms and manufactured on customised equipment unavailable outside the security printing industry, making replication effectively impossible.
Security concept rests on three pillars: secure technology (complex origination process), secure effects (visually compelling motion that encourages user interaction), and secure design (unique appearance that cannot be confused with generic security elements).
Variants:
- Galaxy Saturn — geometric shapes shift in 3D layers when the note is tilted
- Galaxy Custom — customer-defined motif (e.g. country map outline)
- Galaxy Flip — image moves or changes entirely when tilted in any direction
Galaxy Registered is an advanced option where the thread is precisely positioned so each window aligns with a defined motif on the note, integrating the thread into the overall design narrative. The Honduras 200 lempiras is the first banknote to use a registered Galaxy thread, with windows showing a bell and denomination numeral that swap on tilt.
Machine-readable authentication is supported via MultiCode™ (magnetic code), and clear text can also be incorporated. The thread is verifiable under low-light conditions.
