IGNITE® is a next-generation windowed security thread designed for mid to high value paper banknotes. It combines two distinct technologies — proprietary microstructures and colourshift — layered together to create vivid, dynamic effects that are sharp and visible across a wide range of viewing angles, including in low light conditions.
The security concept is built on the simultaneous presence of both effects: the colourshift and movement work together, and adversarial analysis tests confirmed that attempting to copy or simulate both at the same time presents an extremely high barrier. This combinational approach effectively doubles counterfeit resistance compared to single-technology threads.
IGNITE® builds on the colourshift capabilities of De La Rue's established STARCHROME® platform, which has circulated on over 150 billion banknotes worldwide. The thread is fully customisable — denominations, icons, images and logos can be incorporated into the design, and 18 combinations of colourshift (Red/Green, Red/Black, or Blue/Green) and movement effects (9 standard effects across geometric, rotational, and contour types) are available.
Optional enhancements include yellow fluorescence and MagForm™ magnetic machine-readability, adding level 2 authentication capability on top of the standard level 1 public recognition feature.
