These three effects form part of De La Rue's classical and digital holographic origination portfolio, applied to holographic patches and stripes on banknotes. They can be used individually or in combination to create layered, multi-dimensional authentication features.
DEPTH™ Image simulates three-dimensional movement below the surface plane of the hologram — for example, clouds moving behind a portrait. The effect replicates natural depth perception by making elements appear to move more slowly the further away they are, creating a convincing illusion of space beneath the holographic surface.
DUAL™ Image produces a clear switch between two distinct images occupying the same position on the hologram. As the note is tilted, one image replaces the other entirely. The binary nature of the switch — two strong, clearly different images — makes it simple to explain and immediately obvious to the public.
MULTI™ Image is used in conjunction with DUAL™ Image, adding a repeating pattern of icons or numerals that changes colour when the note is tilted. This provides an additional layer of authentication alongside the DUAL™ image switch, and the larger repeating pattern area also improves resistance to circulation wear and damage.
Authentication level: Level 1 (unaided public recognition).
