cBREEZE™

cBREEZE™ is a micro-optic security thread developed by Crane Currency, designed specifically to bring advanced counterfeit protection to low-denomination, high-velocity banknotes — a segment of the cash cycle that has historically been underserved by sophisticated security features due to cost constraints.

Built on the same proven micro-optic platform as Crane's RAPID® HD, cBREEZE is optimised for scale, durability, and affordability, offering central banks a modern alternative to older colour-shift threads — features now vulnerable to large-scale counterfeiting due to the widespread commercial availability of colour-shifting materials.

The thread produces secure moving visual effects — designated Cubic, Ripple, and Stellar — that are distinctly dynamic and easy for the public to authenticate. Each effect is available in six bright colour options: red, blue, violet, aqua, brown, and green. Unlike older demetallised text features that require the note to be held up to the light, cBREEZE can incorporate customised text such as the central bank name, currency code, or denomination in a format legible at a glance under normal viewing conditions.

The underlying micro-optic technology uses proprietary lenses smaller than the width of a human hair, combined with specialty inks applied at the micron level. The sealed lens construction makes cBREEZE highly resistant to soiling and compatible with over-varnishing, ensuring consistent visual performance throughout a note's circulation life.

cBREEZE incorporates Detect — Crane's infrared-based machine readability layer — providing advanced authentication for high-speed banknote sorting equipment. This combines strong public-facing overt security with secure automated verification in a single thread, without relying on magnetic materials that are increasingly falling out of use in modern cash processing equipment.
