DualTrack™

DualTrack™ is a security thread developed by Oberthur Fiduciaire, built around a distinctive dual-track architecture that sets it apart from conventional single-element security threads. The thread comprises two non-adjacent tracks carrying different visual effects, connected by bridges — a structural approach that multiplies both the aesthetic possibilities and the authentication complexity within a single embedded feature.

The two tracks can each carry independent optical technologies, with available effects including optically variable ink (OVI), holographic, diffractive, metallic, and partially metallised finishes. The ability to combine different effects across the two tracks within one thread means that each deployment can be uniquely configured, making simulation or replication significantly more difficult than with single-effect threads. The thread is produced in widths from 3mm to 6mm, giving central banks flexibility in how prominently the feature appears within the banknote design.

DualTrack™ addresses all three levels of the standard banknote security framework within a single feature. At Level 1, the distinctive visual contrast between the two tracks provides an immediately recognisable and engaging public authentication cue. At Level 2, the thread supports machine readability through UV inks, infrared inks, conductivity, and magnetism, enabling authentication by teller devices and automated cash handling equipment. The magnetic readability also permits fitness recognition on high-speed banknote sorting machines. At Level 3, the combination of proprietary optical effects and machine-readable materials provides covert authentication capabilities for central bank verification.

The thread can be varnished, supporting durability throughout the circulation life of the note, and is fully customisable in terms of colour combinations, optical effect pairings, and design integration — allowing central banks to create denomination-specific or series-specific thread configurations that are unique to their currency.
