MOTION SURFACE® is a micro-optic security feature applied during the printing process, distinguishing it from thread-based solutions that are integrated during papermaking. It can be applied as a stripe in various widths determined by central bank requirements and works on any banknote substrate, including paper, hybrid, and polymer notes.
The feature produces stunning three-dimensional visual effects that engage the public and enhance authentication. With more pixels per area than even the most advanced smartphones, MOTION SURFACE® creates images that have depth and personality, capable of telling cultural stories at a glance.
MOTION SURFACE® offers several distinctive visual effects:
- Topo (topographic) effect: Creates the appearance of water droplets resting on the banknote surface, with patterns beneath changing size and acceleration when tilted
- Deep effect: Shows text or images that appear to be below the surface of the banknote
- Shimmer effect: Provides fluid movement within design elements
- Flicker effect: Delivers highly controlled switching between "on and off" states, allowing for detailed imagery such as engraved portraits
The security strength comes from its technological foundation - the engineered raw materials and production equipment used to create these micro-optic features don't exist in other industries, giving counterfeiters no commercial starting point to simulate the feature credibly. As a Level 1 security feature, it provides easy public verification while maintaining high technical complexity that deters counterfeiting.
