Time in Motion 2026
Showcasing the Next Era of Banknote Innovation
Issuer: Authentix (with Kurz, Koenig & Bauer Banknote Solutions, Landqart)
Substrate: Durasafe® (Landqart) — both embedded and paper variants
Status: Non-circulating house note, issued Q2 2026
Overview
Time in Motion marks the official public launch of Authentix's QUANTUM stripe™ animation effects, a nano-optic security feature platform based on plasmonic structural colour technology. The note was developed collaboratively by four partners, each contributing core production capabilities, and is presented as a production-ready demonstration rather than a laboratory concept. Two variants exist: one on Landqart's Durasafe® hybrid substrate with QUANTUM stripe™ embedded within the substrate structure, and a companion paper version with QUANTUM stripe™ surface-applied via hot stamping.
Design
The Time in Motion theme provides the narrative framework, with animated effects, printed design elements, and substrate architecture working together around the concepts of movement and the passage of time. Annotated design callouts on the note highlight specific animation behaviours: rotational cogs revealing denominational text, sand flowing through a hourglass, a pendulum swing causing text to appear and disappear, and a metallic Frost effect with de-metallised stripe elements.
Security Features
- QUANTUM stripe™ (Authentix/Kurz) — plasmonic structural colour, multi-frame animation effects including scrolling, colour shift, and dynamic movement; designed as a platform with a roadmap for expanded colour palettes and machine-readable interaction
- Embedded integration — on the Durasafe® variant, QUANTUM stripe™ is fully embedded within the substrate rather than surface-applied, protecting nano-optic structures from circulation wear
- SUSI Optics® JAZZ™ (Koenig & Bauer) — overprinted across a secondary window on both sides via AKTINA® Simultan offset, producing dynamic optical movement without additional production steps or lenses
- Print process — both variants printed by Koenig & Bauer Banknote Solutions on AKTINA® Simultan offset machinery, confirming compatibility with existing high-speed banknote printing workflows
