Map View

Availability

Map View is available on Premium and Enterprise subscription plans. On other plans the Map button is shown disabled with a lock icon; the World Map overview page under Geography is unaffected by this and remains available to everyone.

Switching to Map View

The Table / Map toggle above the results (on both the main Banknotes list and the By Suppliers page) switches between the familiar results table and a world map view of the same filtered results. Whatever filters, search terms, and status selections are currently active stay applied — switching views never resets your filters, and applying a new filter while in Map view keeps you in Map view.

The current view is part of the page’s URL, so a Map view link can be bookmarked or shared and will reopen exactly as you left it.

What the Map Shows

Every country that has at least one banknote matching your current filters is coloured and carries a marker; countries with no matching banknotes are left blank. The total shown above the map (for example “998 items across 134 countries”) always reflects your current filters.

Colouring the Map by Brand or Type

Normally every matching country is shown in the same single colour — it tells you where your filtered banknotes are, but not which of several filter values a given country matches. On the main Banknotes list (not By Suppliers), selecting two or more values with “Any” matching in one of these filters unlocks a per-value colour breakdown:

• Substrate (substrate type, e.g. Polymer vs. Paper)
• Sub. Brand (substrate brand, e.g. Guardian vs. Safeguard)
• Brand (security-feature brand)
• Sub-Brand (security-feature sub-brand)
• Effect Type (security-feature optical effect)

As soon as one of these has 2+ values checked, a Colour toggle appears above the map. It starts on Off — the default single-colour behaviour described above. Switching it to one of the filter names (for example “By substrate brand”) recolours the map so each country reflects which of your selected values its banknotes actually carry, instead of just that it matched at least one of them.

A legend appears alongside the toggle listing each selected value with its own colour swatch and a count — the count is how many countries on the map are currently shown in that colour.

Some countries have banknotes carrying more than one of your selected values — for example a country using both Guardian and Safeguard substrate. Since a country can only be shown in one colour, these are grouped into a single neutral grey “Mixed” swatch instead of one of the individual colours, with its own count in the legend.

Only the first five selected values, in the order you picked them, get their own colour — more than five distinct colours becomes hard to tell apart at a glance. Any further selected values still narrow the map’s results as normal, they just share the plain default colour rather than getting a sixth or seventh hue; the legend notes this with a “+N more selected” line when it applies.

If more than one of the filters above is multi-selected at once, only one can drive the map’s colour at a time: the toggle shows one button per qualifying filter, and switching between them recolours the map without changing which countries are shown, since the underlying filters haven’t changed. Switching a filter’s match logic from Any to All removes it from the Colour toggle entirely — with All logic every matching banknote already carries every selected value at once, so there’s nothing left to distinguish by colour.

Country Markers and the Item List

Hover a marker to see a panel listing every matching banknote in that country — denomination and year, each linking straight to that banknote’s detail page. Click a marker instead of hovering to pin the panel open so it stays visible; click it again, click a different marker, or click anywhere else on the page to close it.

For a country with a lot of matching banknotes, the list scrolls internally rather than growing the panel indefinitely, and is capped to the first 18 entries. A “View all N in table” button at the bottom of the panel switches back to Table view already filtered to that one country, so you can see the complete list, sort it, or export it.

Euro Banknotes

Banknotes denominated in Euros belong to the Eurosystem rather than any single country. Every Eurozone country still shows as having banknotes on the map, but its item list and “View all in table” link point to the shared Eurosystem entry, since that’s where the euro banknote records actually live.

Zooming and Panning

Use the + / − buttons in the top-right corner or the mouse wheel to zoom, click and drag to pan, and the compress-icon button to reset the view.

Copying the Map as an Image

The copy icon button above the zoom controls copies the current map view — current zoom, pan, and colouring — to your clipboard as a PNG image, ready to paste into an email, chat, or slide deck. The icon briefly turns into a checkmark to confirm the copy succeeded. If your browser doesn’t support copying images to the clipboard, a PNG file downloads instead and the icon turns into a download icon. The exported image covers only the map area itself (country shapes and markers), not the filter bar.

Also Available on By Suppliers

The Banknotes > By Suppliers page has the same Table / Map toggle, filtered to banknotes that have at least one supplier role recorded (designer, printer, substrate supplier, or feature supplier). The Colour toggle described above is specific to the main Banknotes list and is not available on this page.
