World Map
DV Cash (Cash in Circulation) · Last updated Aug 05, 2026What It Shows
The Cash World Map (/cash/map/) plots one marker per country with cash-in-circulation
data. Reach it from Cash-CIC → World Map in the navigation, or the
World Map button at the top of the Cash Dashboard. Hover or click a marker to see
that country’s latest reported year — volume and value — for
Banknotes, and for Coins too if the country tracks coin circulation separately.
Banknotes / Coins Filter
The Banknotes and Coins chips next to the search box each cycle through three states every time you click them:
- Any (default, grey) — no filter on this data type.
- Has data (green) — only show countries that have this data type, regardless of whether they also have the other one.
- Only (amber) — only show countries that have this data type and not the other. Clicking the Banknotes chip through to Only, for example, isolates every country that reports banknotes but has no coin data tracked.
The two chips combine with each other — setting Banknotes to Only while leaving Coins on Any shows every banknotes-only country, while setting Coins to Has data shows every country that tracks coins, whether or not it also tracks banknotes. Countries that don’t match the current filter fade out on the map rather than disappearing, so you keep your geographic bearings while narrowing down.
Region and Sub-region Filter
The Region row narrows the map to one or more continents; the Sub-region row below it updates to show only the sub-regions belonging to whichever region(s) you’ve selected. Both rows are multi-select — click a pill again to deselect it. Region and sub-region selections combine with the Banknotes/Coins chips, so you can, for example, view only the Eastern Europe countries that report coin data.
Click Reset All at the right of the toolbar to clear every filter — both data-type chips and the region/sub-region selection — in one click.
Finding a Country
Use the Find a country… search box to jump straight to any country by name — the map centres and zooms to it automatically.
Reading a Country’s Panel
Hovering or clicking a marker opens a panel with the country name, a Banknotes section showing the latest year’s volume and value, and — if the country reports coin circulation — a matching Coins section underneath. Figures are shown in the data source’s own units (for example “Millions”) and currency. A View full trend link at the bottom of the panel jumps to that country’s entry on the Cash Dashboard.
Locked Countries
If your subscription only covers a subset of countries, the ones outside your plan still appear on the map with a dashed outline. Their panel shows a lock icon instead of any figures — hover it for an unlock prompt.
Zooming, Panning, and Copying as an Image
Use the + / − buttons or the mouse wheel to zoom, and click-and-drag to pan. The compress-icon button resets the view back to the full world. The copy icon button captures the map exactly as it currently looks — zoom level, pan position, and active filters — and copies it to your clipboard as a PNG image, ready to paste into a report or slide deck. If your browser doesn’t support copying images to the clipboard, the image downloads as a PNG file instead.
